What are good Fats?

Good fats come from Vegetables, nuts, seeds & fish.These fat differ from saturated fats by having fewer hydrogen atoms bonded to their carbon chains.Good fats are liquid at room temperature. These are of 2 types:-

  1. Monounsaturated Fats- These include Olive oil, Peanut, Canola,Avocados & most nuts, also high Oleic safflower &  sunflower oils.
  2. Polyunsaturated Fats:- These are essential fats that are required for normal body functions but our body can’t make them and so one must get them from diet.These fats are used to build cell membranes & the covering of nerves.They are also needed for blood clotting & inflammation. Replacing them with saturated fats or highly carbohydrates, reduces LDL(bad) cholesterol and improves cholesterol profile. it also lowers triglycerides.

Eat foods with healthy fats to decrease your risk of Heart disease. Have Walnuts, Almonds, Hazelnuts that have Omega 3 Fatty acids, Avacados, Salmon, Sardines, Tofu, Sesame seeds.
