WHAT IS DIABETES?
Diabetes is the most common endocrine disorder that increases the level of sugar in the blood. It is caused when body cannot produce or properly use INSULIN, a hormone needed for glucose metabolism.
TYPES OF DIABETES
TYPE 1 OR INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETES MELLITUS (IDDM)
This type is more common in children & young adults below 40 yrs of age. Insulin is either not produced or quantity produced is not enough.
TYPE2 OR NON INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETES MELLITUS (NIDDM)
This type is generally common in adults above the age of 50 yrs. In this type there is inability of insulin to function properly.
This type includes women who develop glucose intolerance during pregnancy. Complex hormonal and metabolic changes are probably involved in the etiology and insulin resistance may play a part.
TYPE 2 DIABETES is the most common of all the types, its risk factors are as follows-:
- Family History
- Lack of physical activities
- Unhealthy Food habits
High Blood Sugar Or Hyperglycemia (symptoms) : Hypoglycemics feel very thirsty very often, feel tired, have blurry eyes,feel weak, feel dizzy
Low Blood Sugar Or Hypoglycemia (symptoms) : Hypoglycemics feel sweaty, shaky, Grumpy, Confused, Hungry, Have Headache
